Coronavirus COVID-19 Patient Update

At Mayfield Medical Centre we are constantly reviewing our approach to delivering a safe and effective service for our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please find below a summary of how our services have changed:

 

  • We are still here to provide our patients with the care and treatment they need – just in a different way.
  • The Practice is not open to the general public. Please do not come to the Practice unless you have been given a pre-booked appointment.
  • Lots of alternative options are available for you to contact the practice about the care that you need:
  • We would like to strongly recommend the use of eConsult. All eConsults will be answered in order of urgency and we will have several GPs working on this service at any one time. The link is available here
  • We have moved to a total telephone triage service – if you request an appointment – you will be placed on a triage list and one of our clinicians will call you back – this may be a GP, Nurse, Mental Health Worker, Clinical Pharmacist or Paramedic depending on your needs.
  • You may be invited to join the clinician via a video consultation – it’s easy to use, the clinician will explain everything to you over the telephone and you will be sent a text with a link by the clinician.

 

If you have been given an appointment:

  • You must wear a mask when attending the Practice
  • Please do not enter through the front doors, please see the Reception Team in the window next to the main pathway
  • For the safety of everyone, it is very important that you do not attend the Practice if you or a member of your household:
    • Have a new or continuous cough
    • Have a high temperature
    • Have a loss of taste or smell
    • Are awaiting results of a COVID-19 test
    • Are self-isolating
  • If you are instructed to enter the building via the front doors - Hand gel is available at the entrance of the practice and must be used by all patients
  • You will be given a mask to wear when entering the practice, if you have not brought your own
  • Please remain 2 meters away from other patients and staff members at all times
  • You should only visit the surgery if you are told to do so by a clinician and it is very important that you come alone (unless bringing a child or you are the carer of the patient attending for the appointment).
  • Please travel by car where possible – you may be asked to wait in your car.
  • You should also aim to arrive as close to your appointment time as possible to avoid sitting in our waiting areas for any longer than needed.

 

If you are a ‘shielding’ patient:

All our patients have now been contacted if they should be shielding. If you are classed as a shielding patient and still require medical care, this is available to you in the following ways:

  • New or Existing Medical Problems (urgent or routine) – eConsult, Telephone, Video appointments with the GP, Nurse, Mental Health Worker, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist or Paramedic
  • Reviews of your long-term conditions – eConsult, Telephone or Video appointments – if you have a chronic condition such as diabetes, COPD, asthma, hypertension, heart disease, etc.
  • Essential Nursing Treatment or Investigation - Face to Face - such as urgent injections or blood tests
  • If you are housebound for any other reason, our Paramedic Home Visiting Service is still available, telephone reception to request this, as early in the morning as possible.

 

If you are shielding and are asked to come to the surgery for an appointment, please do the following:

  • Provide the Receptionist with your car registration number
  • Park in the designated bay in the car park (marked with cones)
  • Wear a mask to the Practice
  • Telephone the Reception on your arrival (an alternative number will be given to you when your appointment is booked)
  • Wait in your car and do not enter the Practice, the clinician will come to collect you from your car
  • It is possible you may receive your treatment in your car, where this is safe, confidential and possible to do so.
  • You may get a telephone call from the clinician the morning of your appointment, if they need to ask you any questions in advance.

 

Prescriptions:

All prescriptions are being converted to our electronic prescription service which means it is not necessary to attend the practice to pick up your prescriptions.


All prescription requests should be made online or by emailing them to nehfccg.prescriptions@nhs.net.

 

 

 

COVID-19:

If you think you may have COVID-19 the advice remains that you should use the NHS 111 Symptom Checker: https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/ - if you do not have access to the internet, telephone 111 directly.

 

Please do not come to the Practice.

Letters relating to COVID-19:

The Practice cannot provide letters for your employers, proof of any medical condition or letters for schools.

 

Isolation notes for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 can be obtained as above.

 

If you are in a shielding group, you would have already received a letter informing you of this. If you think you should be shielding but have not yet received a letter please review the guidelines here and contact the Practice if you believe you fit the criteria.
